Gaga was introduced to performing artist Lady Starlight during this time; after a performance at Lollapalooza Festival in 2007 Gaga was signed by Vince Herbert to Streamline Records which is an imprint of Interscope Records. Gaga signed a music publishing agreement with Sony/ATV after she had been an apprentice songwriter for Famous Music Publishing. Gaga was asked to write music for Britney, Fergie, New Kids on the Block, and the Pussycat dolls. At Interscope, singer-songwriter Akon recognized her vocal abilities when she sang a reference vocal for one of his tracks in studio; Akon then convinced Interscope-Geffen-A&M Chairman and CEO Jimmy Iovine to form a joint deal by having her also sign with his own label Kon Live, making her his "franchise player. The album she released in 2008, 'The Fame' received mediocre radio play. The singer was on tour Europe and the US in support of the album. It was not until 2009's smash hit "Just Dance" that mainstream pop music truly started to flourish. Gaga was suffering from a Labral tear in her right leg, which she secretly nursed for a few weeks in order so that she could go on the tour. After her performance in Toronto Gaga became unable to walk and was suffering from severe discomfort. She was taken to the hospital, and her tour was canceled.
